Don't be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves. - Dale Carnegie

DAY 07 - ??? - No-S Diet

DAY 27 - Ride the Rollers - No-S Diet
The diet has been slow and steady the last week or so. Funny enough I have been the exact same weight for 3 days. I am going to try to finish strong for this little last push of the month.
I have met my goal of being able to ride the rollers with clipless pedals for 30 minutes.

DAY 24 - Ride the Rollers - No-S Diet
I recently had my annual physical examination, which I get once every seven years, and when the nurse weighed me, I was shocked to discover how much stronger the Earth's gravitational pull has become since 1990. - Dave Barry
I still struggle with the weight (this seemed so much easier in the past) but the rollers are pretty easy now. I put too much pressure in my hands and wrist. I assume that this is because they do not change position much and that there is no wind to help keep your torso up. When I used to ride a motorcycle (a sport bike - bent over riding position) my wrists would hurt riding around town. Once I was out on the highway the wind would take a lot of weight off of your wrists. Same thing I imagine.

DAY 17 - Ride the Rollers - No-S Diet
My weight was the lowest that it has been on a Tuesday this year and I rode the rollers for 30 minutes this morning. I'm on a roll this week.

DAY 16 - Ride the Rollers - No-S Diet
This is the lowest that my weight has been on a Monday all year. In addition, my body fat percentage has also been down for 2 days in a row. I guess that is what happens when you don't go completely freak'n nuts-O on the weekends (at least not on both days).
I did not ride the rollers this weekend - I spent a lot of time out side.

DAY 14 - Ride the Rollers - No-S Diet
Well the scale is not broken. I actually had ideas about testing the dang thing - weighing myself with dumb bells or something. Anyway, I am down 5 pounds for the year. If I can lose just one pound per week until my first race I still should reach my goal weight. Today is just a running day but I will probably still practice the rollers for a little bit.

DAY 13 - Ride the Rollers - No-S Diet
What the world really needs is more love and less paper work. - Pearl BaileyI rode the rollers yesterday for 30 minutes and this morning for 45 minutes. It is getting easier. My standard cadence on the road is in the high 90's. It is harder to keep that cadence on the rollers. At first I would tend to rock a little. I started practicing one minute at a higher cadence (90's) and one minute at a lower cadence (80's). I am getting better and smoother.
On a side note, I am starting to think that the scale is broken. Three days at the same weight!

DAY 10 - Ride the Rollers - No-S Diet
The ride the rollers thing is getting easier and easier. I rode them this morning for 15 minutes. The only surprises are when I try to ride one handed. I have not crashed yet but there have been some close calls. I will make a new video when I get a little better and can maybe take a drink while riding.
The diet is not going as well. My weight is holding steady and high.

DAY 31 - NO-S DIET
The alimentary canal is thirty-two feet long. You control only the first three inches of it. Control it well. - Kin HubbardWell, this is the last day of the month. I was really hoping for better results. I have learned that my weight can really fluctuate wildly from day to day. I also learned that I must keep to a plan to lose weight now a days. You would think that with all of the exercise that dropping a few pounds would be easy. Obviously not - just a couple of pounds for the entire month.
I am confident that I will meet my goal weight (155) by race day (April 05). That is about 10 pounds in 2 months. That should be achievable. I just need to be a little more diligent with my consumption.
I will start a new resolution tomorrow but will continue to follow this one.

DAY 30 - NO-S DIET
Health is not simply the absence of sickness. - Hannah GreenThat is an ugly chart above. The weight has really bounced around. I have cheated too many times. I also believe that the off peak week of training has played a major role. This has been a recovery week - training hours have dropped from a high last week of just over 12 hours to about 8 hours this week. However, I have eaten the same amount. On a positive, I have diversified my work day eating routine. I have been preparing meals in advance and taking them into work. I had previously completely relied on oatmeal, protein powder and tuna. I am going to continue the diet and get down to my 'racing' weight.

DAY 29 - NO-S DIET
We confess our little faults to persuade people that we have no large ones. - Francois de La Rochefoucauld (1613 - 1680)I have not updated the chart yet - I do not remember if I am up one or two pounds today - oops.
I had a bad night last night concerning the diet. I really was not hungry, but... I am not sure what to call it - I ate because of stress, emotions, boredom - whatever, it just boils down to I was not feeling satisfied and I ate 4 pop tarts (2 foiled packages). I really do not even like these things very much. You might ask, "Then why do you have them in the house?"
Well, they are really cheap and I like to take them with me on long bicycle rides. They fit right in your back jersey pocket and each Pop Tart is 200 calories. They come two to a pack and sweat will not soak into the foil package or anything. A box of Pop Tarts is just about $1 for eight of these monstrosities (also, there is a $1 off coupon on some of the boxes right now). These things are so much cheaper than a gel or power bar or any of those sort specialty products. Fig newtons would be just as bad.
FYI - They do have a version with 5 grams of fiber per tart - that's the kind I had last night - plus 20 grams of fiber.

DAY 28 - NO-S DIET
There is nothing like good food, good wine, and a bad girl. - Fortune cookieI had a couple of glasses of wine last night. Fortunately it did not get the best of me and the night snacking was kept to a minimum. I am down 1 pound this morning on this January home stretch. I was hoping to see the high 150's before the month was out but that may not have been realistic. It definitely became unrealistic considering how many times I have wavered on this diet.

DAY 27 - NO-S DIET
I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestioned ability of a man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor. - Henry David ThoreauDown a pound and up a body fat percentage. Much better than last week when I was up about 5 pounds.

DAY 26 - NO-S DIET
Never tell anyone that you're writing a book, going on a diet, exercising, taking a course, or quitting smoking. They'll encourage you to death. - Lynn JohnstonAnother not too bad S-Day. I think it is getting easier to not over indulge on these weekend days. Sure there is a little extra but nothing extreme. Had some ice cream after dinner on Saturday night and that was really it. Last night was a nice meal but once again nothing overboard. This is the home stretch for the first resolution. I am excited to see where the weight loss will fall for 30 days. I will continue to keep to the diet but will add another resolution next Monday. I have a few that I am milling over. Please leave a comment if you have any good ideas.

DAY 25 - NO-S DIET
Nothing ever goes away. - Barry Commoner (1917 - )I see the trend but I still do not like it - I am up 2.6 pounds since yesterday. I am hoping that the weight will settle down by the end of the month.

DAY 24 - NO-S DIET
Millions long for immortality who don't know what to do with themselves on a rainy Sunday afternoon. - Susan Ertz, Anger in the SkyUp a pound / down a body fat %. It is the weekend (S DAYS AGAIN). Friday nights have kind of become mini - S DAYS. It was kept to a minimum, however, I did have a piece of a caramel, chocolate, demon, goodness cheese cake. It was good!
Raining outside right now - the long bike ride will have to wait - frown - getting on the trainer.

DAY 23 - NO-S DIET
I had an appointment last night and did not get home for dinner. I went to the cafeteria here on campus. I knew I would over indulge. I just let it happen. I'm up 0.8 pounds and 1 % body fat this morning. I'm not sweating it though.
Still working the plan.
Still working the plan.

DAY 22 - NO-S DIET
There's no secret about success. Did you ever know a successful man who didn't tell you about it? - Kin Hubbard (1868 - 1930)Another 2 pounds down for a total of 6.2 year to date. Once again there was no sweets. I can't say the same about snacks. Like a broken record - as the week progresses I get more and more in a calorie deficit. It seems that I just cannot get the calorie balance just right. I am also sure that since I started working out twice a day on a regular basis that this has affected my nutrition needs.
This week has also been the highest exercise week year to date. Next week will be much less. It will be interesting to see how my weight changes next week without the high volume. For example the training plan this week calls for 2:45 swim, 8:35 bike, and 2:35 run for a total of 13 hours and 55 minutes - this is in addtion to a few other little strength training sessions that I do. Next week is only 1:30 swim, 2:00 bike and 1:45 run for a total of 7 hours and 45 minutes.

DAY 21 - NO-S DIET - Back on track
The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest her or his patients in the care of the human frame, in a proper diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease. - Thomas A. Edison (1847 - 1931)
Simply amazing. The scale read 164.0 and the same body fat percentage this morning. That means I am down 4.4 pounds in one day. I guess the combination of an off exercise day and a high sodium meal just had me retaining water.
Glad to be back on schedule. There were no sweets or seconds yesterday. There was an evening snack - actually a small meal.
